Well I'm about to find out for sure .... hopefully it won't be the hard way! The dealer rep will be personally involved onsite in the installation of the Stage IV upgrade on my 2017 CVO Limited. The oil pump has already been confirmed as the latest version and is onsite with all the latest Stage IV components.
The upgrade install is scheduled for the 1st week of May. So I should be able to report out the status of this latest upgrade (this is my 3rd engine and 3rd stage IV upgrade) by mid-May.
As stated earlier, the HD Rep has confirmed in writing that there have been no reports of sumping on any M8 bikes that have the latest oil pump installed following the updated installation instructions in the latest version of SB1450.
I would welcome anyone that has personally experienced engine sumping on their own M8 bike with a stage III/IV kit using the latest oil pump AND and was installed using the latest torquing instructions in SB1450 to share their specific experience or drop me a PM.
Make sure the mechanic dances around the bike with a dead chicken shouting "Sump a lacka!" 27 times... Chicken can't be frozen or cooked or a Tyson..
Picked up my bike a few hours ago with the new oil pump, ran fine. Talked to my mechanic, he said the bike had no oil when he checked the CKP sensor opening. Per the bulletin part 7A that indicates it’s not a sumping issue but he did replace it anyway. I asked why if it’s not the problem, he said Harley still wanted them to update the pump. He also did the complete engine inspection SB1459. So IDK, I guess I’ll see within the next few months what’s up.
My bike had the latest pump installed per the most current bulletin 2 months ago...it sumps every time I ride it.
I ordered a fueling pump, hoping it will fix it...not feeling like it will though.

Can you refresh the thread with the details of your bike (yr/engine, stock vs upgraded, HD components vs aftermarket parts, still under warranty vs voided warranty)? How are you defining "it sumps every time I ride it"?
IMO (on my 3rd engine due to sumping), an engine will only withstand sumping a certain number of times before failure or significant internal damage. If you have experienced sumping numerous times, the damage may already be done and just changing out the pump is unlikely to correct the damage to the bearings and other rotational components due to lack of lubrication from multiple or long term sumping. Why haven't you taken it back to the dealer after the first sumping experience with the latest upgrade?

2 weeks with the new oil pump and 800 miles, so far so good. I have been hesitant to hit it as hard as I use to just because I don’t want to create another sumping issue. If I do sump again, what should I do (in addition to calling my dealer)? Let it cool? Idle ? Add oil temporarily, then when it flows down from crank, once I’m home drain it back out? Thanks in advance.

I was instructed by HD that if I suspected the engine had been sumping (loss of power, overheating) to leave the engine idling on the kickstand for a few mins. You might it to cool down abit first if it seems really hot.
Different amounts of sumping and different pumps may require different lengths of idling time to remove the oil from the crankcase back to the the oil pan. After a few minutes of idling the dipstick should show the oil level has returned to normal. Then take it to the dealer.
So I this I have become a victim of the M8 sumping issue. Bike has been at dealership for 3 days and not looked at yet....
2018 CVO Ultra 117ci 115th Anniversary Edition
Left on Iron Butt Ride to Daytona with 1101 miles on bike. 50 miles after 1k service at selling dealer. After 550 miles fuel mileage goes from 39mpg to 18mpg, bike has NO POWER and can barely get out of its way. First i thought the EITMS got stuck on so i manually disabled it. No change in performance or MPG. 855 miles into the ride at 80mph on highway the bike shuts down and all lights come on. Coast to the side of the road and park it. Engine is too hot to touch. Take dipstick out and oil is barely to hash marks. Smell of burnt oil and smoke from dipstick port. LEt it cool for 30+ minutes and no start, just crank. Call AAA and 5 hours later a truck shows up, towed to nearest Harley Dealer. Selling dealer comes 200 miles to pick up bike after wife had come to get me. Next day the dealer delivers a loaner bike but as stated they have had CVO for three days and haven't touched it. All i have read is they wont see the oil sumping issue now as it has had time to return to crankcase.
Not a happy camper for a $45k bike with less than 2000 miles on it stranding me 150 miles short of an IBA certificate.
I have demanded a NEW motor, NEW bike, or they can keep it and cancel my loan.
If i don't get an update on bike today i will have to get ugly on them....
