Hundreds and hundreds of posts about all the things wrong that the Mother Ship does / misses / forgot about / just doesn't seem to care about. You guys make it sound like the Mother Ship could not plan a Frat Party in a Brewery.
But when it comes to the ECM suddenly the Mother Ship is "ALL POWERFUL and ALL KNOWING".
According to the stuff some of you guys write HD does not know how to build a motorcycle / engine but they are kick **** white knight hackers when it comes to programming.....
Seriously.... make up your minds.
Im sure HD engineers arent badass hackers, but Id bet the folks they contract to make the ECMs are.
Yet, in all of this time we still have not seen a screen shot or anything proof worthy, just word of mouth.
Not one pic from guys with access to a DT to show, "look this is what shows up on the screen when an ECM has been modified outside Harley's product line", or "this is how they know"...
So... I'm undecided and that means I will not be taking any chances with the 5 or so months left of warranty I still have. After... probably.
Folks any dealer since 1978 (not just 10 years ago) can be fined $10K per event of tampering with anything to do with keeping the vehicle EPA compliant. EPA has only went after manufacturers deep pockets so far as they don't have the staff to go after all dealerships.
But give them time to grow their empire and watch out.
Speaking of EPA compliance, I wonder how oil companies are getting around the EPA with the amount of ZDDP contained in motorcycle specific oils. From my understanding, theres an EPA mandate that phosphorus can not exceed 800PPM in oil designed for emission controlled vehicles. But racing oils are still allowed to contain high amounts. My understanding is that Phosphorus wreaks havoc on O2 sensors and catalytic converters. So how is it that most motorcycle oils have twice the amount of ZDDP (zinc and phosphorus) when motorcycles are designed with O2 sensors and catalytic converters now???

interesting observation indeed...for us we just use the KISS principle and use the HD conventional fluids..but I recall seeing Spectro oil specs and i think they were pretty high in ZDDP
Seriously, who gives a **** what the moco can detect or not. I'd love to shove that ecm up their fat asses.
Harley has always been a blank slate and the minute they tried to steal from the aftermarket is the day I started installing non factory stuff. Since when did the moco become daddy?
