Wondering if anyone else has seen this or knows anything about it:
I was stopped at a light and the engine went into EITMS mode. When the light turned, I goosed the throttle to put it back into normal mode and it went kinda nuts. It started to idle very roughly and sounding odd. I opened the throttle more and it didn't change at all - no increase in rpm at all. I could smell gasoline, perhaps coming from the tailpipe. I don't know what the rpms were when this was happening or if any idiot lights came on but the check engine light might have. I didn't let this situation last long enough to really take stock of exactly what all was going on because I was concerned that the engine was going to self destruct.
The engine was not really hot, so excessive engine temp was not a factor. Everything was fine just before this and it restarted immediately and ran normally. I've disabled the EITMS function for now.

year, model, miles, stock, modified, have you always had EITMS enabled?
EITMS can emit exhaust odor and rpms jump to 1050...you describe more extreme examples of these normal behaviors, that I've never experienced...sometimes the whole EFI system will act up randomly with some erratic jumping up and down momentarily...I'd just re-enable it and see if it was a fluke and settles in to normal again, if it continues to freak you out take it in for diagnostics

2018 Heritage 114. 8k miles. Heavy Breather AC and SE mufflers. No trouble codes. Engine temp was 302, which is pretty normal for driving in traffic. I've had EITMS enabled all summer and it kicks in a lot when driving around town so I'm familiar with how it smells and feels. This was way different. My impression was that it was dieseling, but like I said, I didn't leave it on long enough to carefully assess the symptoms. I left the EITMS enabled for a while and it kicked in a couple times and behaved normally after that.

chalk it up to a fluke..just like some of us with the one and done oil pressure lamp coming on..isolated wonky behavior, nothing man made is always perfect right?
I have a V&H Fuelpak from a previous bike. I can't use it to tune the new one, but it has a feature where you can see the engine information on your phone via Bluetooth.
