It's supposed to be warming up in the next few days. Changing it tomorrow. Cold. Thanks for all the replies!
I feel better already :>)

If you’re changing it tomorrow, start it! let it get warmed up then change it.
if it’s 30 and roads are dry, ride up the street and back.
Warm oil, is preferred because it’s, runny and it been cycled through the system, this will gather up any contamination and moisture, heating it up burns the water off if any has collected in the base, (sump) you get that back in circulation.
it’s in every manual for reason.

If I went out to the garage right now and opened the drain on my Softail hardly anything would come out. After sitting for weeks in this Winter From Hell all the oil would be sumpted at the bottom of the motor. I always change fluids at operating temp. And I can't believe this is "another oil question".

Why don't you let it warm up for 5 minutes in garage? Not saying you have too.

i'm curious, where in the manual does it warn you not to do that? I'm confused
Hell, it got cold by the time I was done screwing with the oil filter and the mess I made, before I drained it.

And..... my post was somewhat tongue in cheek.

Remove drain plug, start bike, wait till lifters complain, shutdown.

Probably for the same reason you do not warm your car up in the garage, unless you have a death wish. Carbon Monoxide is not good for you.

Was it smokin' hot when you last rolled it into the garage, like mine was?

I would have no problem doing what the OP said, especially letting it drain for a while. If it was hot when you rolled in, everything that was going to drip down...did. That last little bit of clingy **** in the pan will drip out in that extended period you mentioned after pulling the plug.

Go for it OP!
