Well, I'll tell ya...
I usually fill mine to the FULL mark...but to narrow that down a bit...
On Softtail models the oil is usually 3 qts...Touring models, 3.5 qts.
Primary is a full qt.
Trans, between 20-24 ozs...except on '07 and up models, they get a full qt.
The trans is checked with the bike upright.
The oil is checked on the stand.
My TC88 takes 2.5 qts on a wet change. 3.0qts if the engine is bone dry like a rebuild. My 6 speed trans takes 1 qt. My primary takes 1 qt. That is a 2006 FXDLI.
On Dynas, 3qts. total capacity, add 2 1/2 after drain and warm to full operating temp and bring level to full on dipstick OR just fill cold to half way between full and add and check after next ride.
On Touring bikes, 4qts. total capacity, same proceedure just use 3 1/2 for a cold fill.
B motors (softails) are less but I am not familiar enough to say how much.
A motor 5 speeds take 22-24 oz. of trans fluid (gear oil) and the primarys take a quart, give or take an oz or a few depending on who you ask. A qt. is what I use on my 06 Roadglide and used for 20K on my 04 Wideglide with no ill results. Just drained and dumped it in the primary inspection cover. Some will say its not enough and you should remove the derby and fill to the bottom of the clutch basket, no harm in it but I don't PERSONALLY think its necessary. Your paranoia may vary![sm=grinangel.gif]
Note, six speed dynas take a full qt. of transoil, not 22-24 oz as earlier 5speed versions did and some dynas manuals call for LESS than a qt. in theprimary. This was to alleviate clutch drag which could be a problem with some year models. HDs solution ? Lower the recommended primary oil level which lessens or eliminates the drag. Strange but true!
Thanks for all the replies folks. I needed to know cause at my recent HOG Christmas party we had a White Elephant gift exchange and mine was a Oil change, four qts of Mobile1. I am about the only Evo in the group, most being TC's, hence the question. Thanks again, no more replies needed.
