The Mallory i have maybe 5 that we took out that left the bikes stranded and even changed the trigger in a couple because customer knew better and all of them failed

sure one in 10,000 is a good unit but even in the cars the Mallory became a tin missile to see how far we could throw them

Well...to quote some words from an old Patty Loveless song, "Nothin' but the wheel"...almost.

Q1. Is the mainshaft/flywheel assembly a light press fit into the left case?

Q2. Can't find the part number for the mainshaft oil seal in the parts manual, but a Google search shows #12049. Can someone verify this is the correct part number for me please.

I get the flywheels out and the next step is pulling the cylinder and oil pump studs and then getting the cases cleaned up, have my machinist look at the cylinders and heads, and getting them cleaned up as well.

That engine block is newer then the number its at least 1955 but it could be even newer

a special tool is used to remove the wheels and its not a light press - if you put it in a press and use the case as a support it 1/2 the time brakes the left case

Agree on the 55 and newer but the belly number even looks like 1950.

55 was the first year for timkin and 68 first year for a non screw in seal holder and they had 2 different press in seals the first in 68 and i believe early 69 then it was the same all the way through evo

All well and good re: case but that said...good numbers on the VIN, matching belly numbers. Right case has 50 casting number, flywheel has 60 part number on it. Can't find my ****ing phone to add pics or I would. So somewhere along it's history things got changed/shifted. Original build is 40 years ago. Originally licensed and registered in California, then Arizona and lastly Florida. California even 40 years ago was a bitch to get old iron registered. Not much changed since then either. But whatever my brother-in-law did back then convinced CHP that the **** was legit. Bike is registered by the VIN.

My 65 I used a press to remove the flywheels from the left case. Don't figure this would be much different?

Left case looks consistent with 48 thru early-52 but it’s been converted for a later shaft etc. When the flywheel assembly is removed I’d expect to see casting number 112-481 inside the case.

If the left case was 55 (55 thru 64) it would look like the example below and I’d expect to find casting number 24541 55 inside.

Ok just so we are all on the same page the seal and block pictured is a late 68 / 69 engine

by the picture its thin and not as large around as the later ——so its a 69 block left side - that seal only comes in that color and it only fits the 69 clock and is pressed into it

I guess i am the only one seeing the thin pad ok i get it
