A better look at the left side. There is no sprocket bearing nut ('55 and later ?) just the large oil seal and spacer. I get the flywheels out, I'll post up pics of what I find

Too bad Sherman and Mr Peabody can't load me in the Way Back Machine to about 40 years ago so I could observe how/what was modified to get this done.

I seem to remember that block it was like a cal custom - they did a 69 bearing in a double roller lower unit as a re pop i dont think it was cal custom but could have been
