Default Clutch release plate

Anyone know how difficult/or not it is to change a clutch release plate. Getting ready to change mine out this weekend (it's stripped). Just want to know what to expect.

You will need a spring compressor to compress the spring to remove the snap ring that holds the plate in place.

Is that the only way to get if off. The tool runs about 100$. I could take it to my mechanic for that.

Yep. Try making one from a PVC pipe end cap. Drill a hole in the center, cut away some of the side 180* apart and use a long fully threaded screw a nut and a washer.......

Never mind it won't work if the threads are stripped. Looks like you are going to have to remove the clutch as an assembly and use a press to compress the spring.

What year motorcycle are you talking about? To remove the clutch release plate on mine, you slack the clutch cable, remove the derby cover, loosen the locknut on the release plate and remove the snap ring. Then pull out the release plate, the treaded clutch pushrod (adjuster rod) and lock nut as one assembly. I have an 06 Twin Cam and a clutch spring compressor is not required to remove the clutch release plate. The only spring tool needed is a set of snap ring pliers. Maybe I misunderstand the OPs question but I read it as clutch release plate, if he said pressure plate then I would say that a clutch spring compressor would be needed.

Yes, I misunderstood the problem. You are correct. A stout snap ring pliers will do it. I was removing the pressure plate.
