Planning a trip to the Beckley, New River Gorge area this spring/ summer any suggestions on places to stay. Me and wife usually stay in hotels but wondering about other choices.
When I go to Beckley I stay at the Quality Inn at the Harper Rd. exit which is the main exit for a variety of motels and restaurants.
My preference because that have a lounge inside the building and they offer a continental breakfast and there's also a pancake restaurant next door.
My wife and I have taken the bike down there for the past two years to do some white water rafting.
We stay at the Marriott in Beckley and use our reward points. We went rafting through Ace Adventure Resort. If you were looking for something besides a hotel, they have some nice little cabins there.
Fayetteville is a great town, Dirty Ernies rib joint is near the Bridge.
Mountain River tours has cabins, chalets to rent. Right off Rt 19. Summerville lake area has some nice riding.
I have never ridden in the area but have spent close to 100 days in the area whitewater boating. Do yourself a fun time by Rafting the New River gorge or the upper Gauley which is real sportie.
Most of the rafting companies have cabins to rent. From cheap to very nice with hot tubs.
Hey MC, we did this trip twice, once for Mountainfest in Morgantown WV and second down to Webster Springs....Awesome riding everywhere....NRGB is a must, theres a HD shop nearby, Cass Railroad was nice and the old railroad shop is fun to see. We stayed at the comfort Inn off I-68 close to all passageway. Do the search mode here & a member posted or been there. Have a great ride and take some pix.
Since your travelling with your wife, you may want to try Lewisburg. Really nice shopping, eating and walking around with the major chain motels nearby. Right off of I-64. The Main St./ old town section, is at Rt. 219 and 60. Take 60 as the back way around New River Gorge.
219 is one of the best motorcycle roads in WV. The interesting parts start about 20 north of town and go right up to Maryland. If headed that way take Rt.150 the Highlands Scenic Highway loop near Marlinton.
You can throw a rock and hit a good road for riding in WV. We were there a few years ago, and I believe we are going back again this year.
I don't really have any recommendations for places to stay. Just wanted to chime-in that I agree WV is a great all around destination state for motorcycling.
