Here ya go, cats and kittens. I always enjoy the pic-heavy posts so I'll do my part. My son and I took a day ride with one of our buddies down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Mitchell. My son is 17 and a new rider and this was his first "day ride".
My son's first ride across the Linn Cove Viaduct
From the peak of Mt. Mitchell
Rode back home on 181 and 183 -- found this place for a mouthful to eat
I rode over from the Tn side across Roan Mountain and down to Linville Falls onto the Parkway. Rode the parkway down to Mt. Mitchell. Man was it ever pretty in early fall. Left there and rode down to Asheville, on the parkway, and then back to Tn.
Great ride...
That is a great area to ride and sight see. I plan to be back there in early June. I have been back there once a year since my first time visiting and hope to be able to get there at least once a year from now on.
It must've been even better than usual with your son along for his first day trip. I have been trying to get my son to go with me, but his work always gets in our way.
I hope one day I can take my bike up there, my grandparents live at the base of mt. mitchell on hwy 80. you can see the lookout tower from their house.
Love the pics from other parts of the US! Thanks for sharing. So what is it like from a Dad's perspective riding with his son? Memories I imagine...
Yep, I hope we'll be able to rack up a lot of good memories over the next several years. It's funny, he's already eyeing a Road Glide Custom for his next bike even though he's only been riding a little over a month. He'll be enlisting in the Marines in about a year (he wants to go to sniper school) so there will be a few years we don't get to ride, but we're both thinking cross-country when his 4 yrs is up. He was mapping out our route last night.
