Looking to spend a long week traveling from Pittsburgh to the Adirondacks. Will be coming up through the finger lakes area and I am looking for your favorite routes to take and places to stay. Thanks for your advice.
I'm assuming you're leaving from Vandergrift. 28 all the way up to Brookville. 80 east to the 2nd Dubois exit, and 255 up to Weedville. At Weedville, 555 through Benezette. Good burgers at the Benezette Hotel, and you might see some elk just roamin' around the village --- depending on how hot it is. Stay on 555 to the stop sign at 120. Right on 120. 120's a GREAT ride. Left on 872 up to Coudersport. At 872 there's another place, The Willows, that's biker friendly & also good burgers. 872 up to 6. Right on 6 east, and 35? miles to PA Grand Canyon. Back down from the canyon, and 6 east again to 287 north. 287 north to 15 north, to Corning NY. 17/86 east a few miles to 414 all the way to Watkins Glen. From Watkins, 14 all the way up to Sodus Point NY. Right on Lake Ontario. Kind of a cool little town with shops & places to eat, right near the water. 14 south a few miles, and left onto 104 east. Runs into interstate 81. 81 up to Watertown, and route 3 to the Lake Placid area. Stop at Whiteface Mountain, and take a ride up the gondola.

Take some time at this web site. www.touringdepot.com click on many of the area tours and you will find many suggestions for that area.
Thanks for the info Geezr,I already plan on taking the same route out of Pa that you mentioned and I know the Willows well. We hunt deer in New York every year in the state park and spend a lot of time eating and drinking at the Willows. Spending a few days around the finger lakes, staying in Auburn. Not sure which lake to go to so I was planning on circling them all. Already have a room booked in Lake Placid and Lake George for a night. Can't make it to Americade this week, maybe next year.
"We" ride up to Sodus Point for lunch, once or twice a year. I like 14 going up out of Watkins Glen, and 414 back down the other side of the lake, back to Watkins. Probably can't go too wrong with any of them, up & back, up there. Enjoy!
Ok, so I ride the finger lakes all the time. What do you want to see?
Out of Naples NY head north on rte 21. Just out of town veer left onto Bristol Springs road. Top of the hill on the left is a Parking area (good signage) with one of the most spectacular lake views you'll ever see. End of that road, go left up rte64, about 2 miles take left on Egypt Valley rd., end of that take a right on East Lake rd, then another right onto rte 20A. Just at the top of the hill in a little town called Richmond is another stop and Lake view. Ride 20A to the stop, go left on rte 64 which takes you back to rte 20.
Rte 54 up the east side of the lake is awesome in the afternoon with the sunset views on the water. Combined with a high speed run down a great 14a/14 back to Watkins Glen for the Falls
Great little biker bar in Potter NY called Smugglers Corner, near where rte 247 meets rte 364
How about near Ithaca NY, Great park near the south side (Robert Treman) with an awesome little run up the North side, Rte 327. That road is full of curves and cutback, only 7-8 miles long maybe but, scrub my floorboards all the time.
Run rte 89 up the west side of Cayuga Lake and 90 to 34B down the East side for a serious wine tour day or continue on 90 right over to Homer NY then North on 41 for a nice ride.
There are tons of great Finger Lakes area (and south of) roads to ride and awesome sights to see.
I live a few miles outside of Lake Placid, & suggest you enter the Adirondacks near Utica.
You can ride east on Route 8 through Lake Pleasant toward Lake George,
or
Ride Route 28 through Old Forge, Blue Mountain (home of the Adirondack Museum), & follow Route 30 through Tupper Lake & Saranac Lake to Lake Placid.
Whether you go to Lake George or Lake Placid first, your destinations are best linked by 9N between Lake George, Ticonderoga, & Keene. Between Keene & Lake Placid you’ll ride high along the Cascade Lakes on Route 73.
These roads form a circle. There isn't much inside that circle but spruce, water, & bears.
PM me if you have any questions because I want you to enjoy the visit.
