Hi, I am cosidering purchasing a 07' CVO Dyna but since reading some of the post here I'm beginning to hesitate on this. This is synopsis of what I have read here.All 07' cvo are set to run lean to meet new emission standards but this causes them to run hot, over heat and may cause pinging and in some cases oil gasket faiures.
To correct this you have to spend extra $$$ to purchase a SERT, dealer adjustment and maybe even replace the pipes? Makes me wonder why anyone would pay 26k+ for a new motorcycle but can't ride it unless you spend $700+ to make it road worthly. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I really like the looks of the 07 cvo dyna but and concern about it's reliablity as well.
I have an 07 CVO UC. My problem was the pinging that the engine would do when accellerating. About 5 weeks ago, I did the ECM recall and it worked great - for a couple after, it started pinging again. I have been told that new pipes, SERT, and air cleaner will take care of it. Sounds like I will have to put out about $2k + to fix a problem that is coming from the factory. They should have added that to the sale price and done it right the 1st time... IMO
I purchased a new SE Dyna FXDSE in December 06 and virtually everything you've mentioned is DEAD WRONG. I don't know where you got your info, but it does NOT apply to the SE Dyna's. I have heard of "some early" SE Ultra owners complaining about pinging and overheating problems, but only on those bikes, and MoCo has a new EFI Map to correct that problem.
ALL 2007 HD's (96 & 110 cid), including the CVO SE Dyna, are tuned "lean" from the factory to comply with emmission requlations, but that should not be interperted as a fault or tuning problem that requires spending additional money to correct. I ride with several buddies that have modified (ie: cam, pistons, exhaust, etc) 88cid and CVO 103 cid Harleys, and they are all pissed now that I've gotten a 110cid SE Dyan and now they can't keep up.
Realize that the SE Dyna is a "pro-street" type of machine that produces amazing torque and power strait out of the box, and the type of people that purchase one of these bikes are normally looking for every bit (and more) of power they can get. Subsequently, a large majority of SE Dyna owners will likely want to change their exhaust (and possibly their air cleaner even though the stock one is a SE High Flow Air Cleaner) to achieve better performance and sound.Most will also do additional tuning (ie: SERT) modificationsas well toget 100% of the torque and power that bike is capable of producing. However to assume that they are doing that to correct a factory fault would be a serious mistake. If you are satisfied with riding a bike that achieves 80-90% of the power it is capable of producing, then leave it alone and enjoy. If you want to squeeze every last drop of power across the entire RPM range that your motor is capable of producing, then buy the SERT tuner and get it Dyno'ed.
REGARDING "SMITTYVEGAS" comments and problems with his SE ULTRA, I would return to the dealer and get to the bottom of that problem. The solution is NOT that you HAVE to spend the extra dollars to get them to run properly, you would only do that if you wanted to improve its power. However, before I even took it back to the Dealer, I'd check the type and brand of gasoline (Octane level) I was putting in the bike to insure that wasn't the source of the problem.
Hello, I have a stock 07 SE Ultra and have put over 2000 miles on it since buying new in 9/06. I have no complaints about the engine at all. Have had the new remap installed and am quite happy with it the way it is. I am considering a SERT and aSE AC kit to just compliment and increase the performance of the engine. I like the way theengine performs, but am considering some upgrades just to enhance what I already have.
Zero issues with a CVO Road King here. So pleased, I'm leaning towards keeping it totally stock. Will give it some thought during the break-in period, but importantly, feel no need whatsoever to make a single performance or heat reducing mod.
The only problem with my 07 CVO Ultra was a little hot on the left thigh in traffic. My 03 RKC is almost, but not quite, as hot so it wasa non issue. On the plus side, before I did my engine upgrades (exhaust, intake, SERT + dyno tune), the bike ran fine - no pinging, no "rocks in a can" tranny noises, none of the issues some folks were having. Since the enging upgrades the only problem I have is I can't slow down...(there is an "excess speed"ticket in my future, I know it's coming)the 110cu in motor and 6 speed tranny rocks!!!
Best of luck making up your mind, but I for one am way happy with my decision to purchase an 07 and the $2000 extra spent on mods and tune were absolutely worth every penny...
BTW... since upgrades the heat on the left side is "normal"

I know evey machine is differentbut I just wanted to be sure that some of thethreads I have read here did not suggest that there was a cronic promblem with the 117 engine. I will contact the dealer today to dicuss the purchase of a 07 cvo dyna - my first HD. BTW can I expect to pay msrp or under?

Well guys, wish me luck. I am scheduled to pickup a 07 fxdse today!! Once I finalize the deal I will publish some numbers but I did NOT pay msrp. Is there anything I should ask the deal before signing on the dotted line. Is there roadside asst? I see a indoor cover is standard - do I get this at delivery? dealer is giving me !0% off stuff ?

Congratulations on your new bike and double congratulations on not paying MSRP. Everything that comes with the bike should be provided at the time of delivery, Iâm sure the salesman will gladly keep it in his office until you can come back and pick it up if you donât want to take it with you. I wouldnât advise getting carried away with the 10% off offer, there are places on the web whose everyday prices are 20% off. As far as the deal goes, try and squeeze anything you can out of them, even if itâs just a t-shirt or some wax.
I have my new 07 FXDSE !! Wow does this bike have power. I understand now what you guys have been talking about, bike running lean. At certain speeds I can feel the bike pulsate. I remember having the same issue with my new Fuel Injected Victory and the dealer recalibrated the ecu mapping and the bike ran perfect. I suspect the same will need to be done here. Does anyone know if the stock ecu on the fxdse can be remapped to run richer? Is the only solution to get another fuel control module like the PC or SERT? At certain speed the mirrors are so blurred they are useless. I remember seeing some were here that HD was replacing stock mirrors to correct excessive distortion caused by vibration.?? This bike is eye popping with bling and it has the performance and power to back it up. I am extremely inpressed with the quality of this machine and the custom paint is awsome.
