My 1976 resto project has a inner primary with part number 60620-74 on the inside of case. The online IPC from www.ClassicCycles that I use lists part number 60421-79a as the applicable part number and makes NO reference to the part number I have. My question is: Are the two one in the same and interchangeable?
I believe the only change was the Cover bolts.. maybe 9 fasteners vs 8?? something like that... so Cover and all they interchange..
I have a -79A around here someplace... I will investigate further..
I can say, that with cover and all...I have Not had any 4-speed Primary that wouldn't interchange..

The way the starter housing bolts on changed..from 79 up... one bolt went on from inside the primary and threaded into the housing...
With minor drilling and tapping you can make it work the old way...which doesn't require removing the primary cover to change the starter
