hey i am having a hell of a time installing a lever action Solenoid. I cannot get bendex gear to engage and disengage smoothly?
I have installed Spyke hi torque starter as well. Bike is 76 FXE, replaced motor with a 80" used engine. using same clutch and i have tried everything to align gear?
I have primary cut out to see , seems like i cant retract it? i have tried washers before and after lever...... please help? Jack shaft? anyone install Spyke starters?
What primary cover & inner do you have ? Stock or aftermarket ? Some outer repop chrome ones didn't line up well, causes the bendix to bind. Anything with the name LifeLine is pure junk.
Hi. You might check the linkage for the bendix throw out. There's more than one. Depending on the inner and outer primary and clutch basket you have the angle of the pivot is different. Could cause it not to engage or bind. Hope it helps

I ran a manual solenoid for many years on my Shovelhead with no problems whatsoever. Hopefully you've installed it properly and have it shimmed right. Oh yeah, and if I remember right, there's that one little part, can't remember which one though, that has to be flipped around backwards to work properly.
check the needle bearing in the starter housing and outer primary, do the starter housing bolt run through the inner primary? if so it must be a bolt with threads all the way up or it won't line up, make sure its not a grade 8 bolt in case it falls out it won't tear up so much inside
maybe cup at end with roll pin? i have tried everything ready to put original starter and solenoid on again and see what the hell is going on.....my old starter would work but solenoids wouldnt last
