FLH Project Consideration
How are you supposed to know which fits?
Parts catalog only shows a part #
1976 74.
My inner primary was previously welded and I don't want to make the same mistake.
Also does anyone use a sealer on this o-ring?
In the tear down of a few years ago now, the primary was left attached to the transmission. ...So not dis-assembled correctly?
And while it was last running, my friends father thought the bike was acting funny... Not knowing what that means at all. Would improper alignment cause drivability issues?
Maybe the engine/primary/trans was never aligned correctly to begin with (post factory install)?
Well... I cannot not worry about that any further. It is what it is.
I will acquire a replacement inner primary and probably have my local tech's do the initial install.
This will include aligning the primary, running oil lines, and initial fire up. I do not want to make mistakes in these areas. This bike also needs complete electrical as I have not run into any wiring. None, notta. Fresh wiring it will be.
So... as I got into this bike for the right price... The expenses will/are creeping up.
I will step back for a moment and put together a list of my order of tasks, as I am not doing anything for myself other than the superficial bolt on's and style scheme.
I am just starting polishing on the sliders, then I will rebuild the forks, new seals & wheel bearings.
We (here) have thought this bike could be a 4" over front end... It really looks pretty decent & raked out... Thoughts on keeping it 4" over (if thats truly what it is), or reducing to 2" over, or stock. Hmmm
I may forgo the nacelle & cowbells and run it more bare up front as it is now - debating that.
I may fit the engine, trans & primary in just to see how much this bike will settle. But my plan is rebuild the forks, press in neck & swingarm races/bearings, and then go for a powder coat of the frame & swingarm. I will have assistance lining up the primary, routing oil lines, and help with electrical too.
Oh, I may use some naval jelly on my corroded chrome parts. I have had good luck with naval jelly a time or two in the past. Very nasty toxic stuff though.
Baby steps...
early machine - the further away you take it from its original visual and pieces - the less it’s worth sometimes by 10s of thousands of dollars - your choice
twinkie riders really think it cool when a original piece is chopped up -
as they have a no value copy of a jap bike that copied the harley in the first place - anyway

Ya jap bike, what a crock of bs. Guess I am on my own on this build up. I know what I want to do. Working with existing parts as it was, so far... Thank you
