Default 12" - 14" apes for my Fatboy!

Greetings All,

Love my 2005 Fatboy. The stock bars didn't work well for my 6'2" frame. I picked up a pair of used '04 Heritage Bars. (7" rise 11" Pull Back) this was a good move but I think I need a little more.

Looking at going 12-14" apes. Leaning toward the 14"

My questions are:

- Should I go with a complete kit like Hill Country?

- Any experience with Demon Kits I see on Amazon for $229?

- Should I buy cheaper bars and spend more on better cables?

- How hard is this to install myself?

Thanks!!

I am in the process of changing my bars again and imo it is not hard. Extending the wires with a wire kit is simply match the colors then pull them threw the bars and install them into the connector. As for the cable part I use cheap drag specialties black vinyl idle and throttle cables. The only cable that I would invest money in is the magnum shield clutch cable or equivalent because they have much less drag and make pulling your clutch in much easier.

2009, I'm 6-1, have the 12", wish I would have got the 14s. Saying that, the 12s do work better than stock. Also have 4" risers.

I am 6' and have had a lot of different bars on my 01 Fatboy. I had 17" apes and currently have 15 - 16" apes. The 17's were the most comfortable bars I had on the bike. Go by a dealer and sit on some used bikes to get a feel what height you want.

i would be careful with Demon Cycle. I bought a set of bars from them years ago and they arrived with bad chrome and rust at welds. I had to pay shipping to send them back.

I have a 2008 Fatboy and looking to go 14 -16 apes.
A shop today quoted me $800 buck labor + parts.
Said total job could run up to $1500 bucks.
Really?
What are the best option you've found thus far?
Anything on Ebay?

First you can buy the bars and cables off ebay from good sellers .... and simply do it your self ...no reason for a dealer to do it ....

I'm 6'1 and after a while my 14 carlini's with the stock 2 1/2 inch risers started to bother by elbows on long ride. So i went with wide glide bars. They put your hands in closer together and don't bend your wrist's so much like the stock bars.

On my 04 RK, I did the full Hill Country kit. No problems.
