Yea, better engine better frame, etc. That's not my complaint.
They just made it butt ugly.
I think the idea of the new frame is just great - a single shock just like a GP racer and my Buell Firebolt! But oh my - what have they done to the looks of the darned things?!
So last weekend my wife and I are @ Laconia H-D picking out some T shirts as Holiday presents for our kids in Texas and Florida.
We are surrounded by 100s of brand new Harleys.
She stops dead in her tracks next to an 18 Brown Heritage, Wow she says, I really like that bike. Hmm
I have an 71 FX, a 17 FLHR and a 18 FXLR. We have crossed this country 7 times on Harleys. Yes she rides. We have seen millions of motorcycles. Im trying to figure out how to get her one for XMASS. Probably going to have to sell some guns quick!
Yup, I can relate. The new ones mostly look good to me. A few old aspects I'll miss, but nothing I've lost sleep over while I'm enjoying the '18.
I love Harley-Davidson. I love the history I love the Nostalgia I love the soul in these bikes. But Harley-Davidson has shot themselves clean in the foot with the 18 Softail lineup. I don't care what anybody says. You can cry but hurt. You can cry all the hater BS you want. They're losing market share, the stock is in a huge slump and taking a nose dive. This is what happens when you let the Millennials lose in the design room. I'll buy they are an improvement ride wise, feature-wise possibly. But it's been said before if you want something that handles like butter you don't buy a Harley-Davidson it's plain and simple. If you need your *** massaged and your chin tickled with a feather then I guess the 18s do the trick for you.

Uh, I'd love to know what the median age is for folks employed in key positions at the MoCo. Truly, I doubt that they're barely post pubescent. Yet, even if they were young, do you actually believe that these alleged "whippersnappers" would have cart blanche and / or the final say on any given design??

Everybody's got an opinion, and thats great. Much respect, Although, it is Funny how theres a huge aftermarket arena over the last few years selling bits to make your bike look similar to a lot of the design cues of the 18's. They also sell stuff to make em ride and handle better. Guess the after market companies got a bunch of millennials to do focus groups and they got it wrong as well. Guess the guys who bought Harley's and immediately update their bars, seat and suspension, got it wrong as well, and didn't really want a Harley that rode and handled great. Guess they just made a mistake and bought the wrong bike eh. I guess Harley really wasn't watching the trend of their customer or after market, or listening to their customer base, I guess they just winged it. And now we have new softails that handle terrible, ride terrible, and look atrocious....No-one wants any of that, 35 odd HD's over the years, and they have Completely missed the mark for me,,,,Guess I'll just continue to ride my 45 Flathead,,,, Until my new Heritage Arrives... Now where did I put that Feather.....I need it to tickle my sarcasm.
