Our local dealer has 2 -3 month waiting list just to get a bike... And I live in Nor-Cal. New dealership opening up just 20 miles away from the current one by my house. I have 4 dealerships within a 75 mile radius. more than 10 in a 100 mile radius. HD is doing just fine...
Hopefully, it also means more used bikes will get on the market faster.
Jessica, mine sounds like that. Except the deepest tones dont come across like when youre standing there, but close enough.
And to add, while I personally like the sound of many exhaust systems I hear, I do think some extreme examples belong on a track and not on the road. Youre understanding might be reflected in your attempt to quiet yours down a bit. And beyond my own level of tolerance, my neighbors in this HOA would not be cool with too much louder exhaust. They noticed when I put these on, but not to a point of a complaint. There are a number of riders here, but all the bikes have baffled exhaust systems to some extent. You can hear em go by and recognize who it is by the sound, but no straight pipes.
The Street Cannons make the bike a lot more enjoyable to ride. If HDs own product doesnt sound like an HD, oh well then. Im definitely not winning any loudest bike competitions, but Im good with that. It no longer sounds stock either, and I expect theyll eventually break-in like the stock exhaust did. And hopefully the farm houses on the country roads I frequent dont consider me a nuisance. I dont want to rattle their windows either. Its the right exhaust for me.
Having said that, I can still appreciate a Stage 5 beast! Especially nice that its a Breakout.
Ride on sister!
Well said. Often I'm surprised how much folks who don't ride still like to hear a Harley go by. Guess it brings back memories for them too. My neighbors usually feel like those of us who make a little extra noise keep bad elements away. I always try to keep it civil through the streets. I leave at 3am sometimes or get home late and I practically idle out of there to avoid waking them up. There's a lot more qualities to our sound than just volume.
Same here. When I used to ride, I would enter the subdivision with enough momentum that I would pull the clutch so I can idle through while still going around ten miles per hour. My subdivision speed limit is twenty but they really want people going slower. When I would leave, I would try to do something similar to keep the revâs down. My bike is by no means loud, but I just try to be extra courteous in the subdivision.
My lawn care obsessed neighbor on the other hand.....I am on the verge of strangling him with his weed eater string.

That, car alarms and leaf blowers...endless noise no one needs...far more annoying than a passing bike..noise police should leave bikes alone and go after these jokers.

It is kind of senseless to continue with HD at that level since more gains for less money can be had via S&S, Fuel Moto, etc. If you are already that deep in, the warranty is gone anyway and the main argument for going the HD route is warranty preservation.
An aftermarket stage 2 equivalent for example will flat out smoke any EPA / warranty compliant HD kit. Companies like Woods, Andrews, S&S etc. already have some nice cams available for the new engines.
Regarding sound, well the sound died around 1999 / 2000, not there is anything wrong with the newer bikes, but a well tuned carbureted Evo is music to my ears.

I have given up on HD dealers for maintenance work, they can provide me with the parts that I need, but I take it to a indy who is also much closer by...
