Recommend using the Search button at the top of the home page. There's TONS of posts about 07's running hot.
Essentially, you need a new Air Cleaner, Exhaust and ECM tweaking (V&H Fuelpak, Power Commander III or Screaming Eagle Race Tuner). Then you need to change to synthetic oil at the 1000 mile service.
This will solve the problem. Your buddy is correct about them running lean from the factory to meet the new EPA standards.
Yes they run hotter, blame it on the EPA. Switch to Syn oil as advised. The secret: is to keep moving, if you are stuck in traffic, you are going to feel the heat, so don't ride with shorts and sandals, ugghhh!!
Blame it on the EPA?How can other air cooled manufacturers do it w/o nearly the complaints HD has?S&S said it was easy to do with the X-Wedge.Blame it on HD rushing a bike to production w/o good testing. How can bikes blowing head gaskets, shearing starters, glowing pipes, lwr end bearings failing, cam gears spining on cams, crank walk, tranny clatter,5th gear whine, wrong fender alignment, wrong front tires, battery cables shorting out just to name some. How did this come about so soon? They built these bikes on the fly, during labor troubles, poorly managed vendors, while using componets that cant tune bike correctly.Just look at what these guys are dropping in cash just to get their bikes to run w/o burning themselves, not with performance in mind. The dealers stand there like a deer in the headlights when a new owner returns before even getting home after initial purchase.Contacting C/S is a waste of both of your times. The 07s have run many off from buying this yr,even more wont be back because of shitty service. If the auto industry can do it,Hd surely can.Get rid of the stone-age engineers and stsrt building us something that honestly works right off the showroom floor, back it up w/good owner/dealer experience.Another yr of this and HD is in trouble. The next few weeks will tell.
yea mine runs hot just like everyone else. and i allso went as far as putting a oil cooler on. well it is going on by friday. i will post pics of it when i have it instaled. the cooler ran $200.00 and the adaptor ran $100.00 plus the braded oil lines. the style i went with mounts on the fram just behind the front tire. from what the book is telling me my oil temp will drop 20degs. i will post pics when it is done.
Personally I have no issues with my bike. HD has made a superb bikewith the 07 Fat Boy. Mine has no problems since bought new and I ride it hard. I've had japanese, german and italian jobs, so I think I know something about bikes, and all of them run hot as hell.
I have an 07 FXSTC. Just have a stock engine on it still, but I plugged in a pair of the Nightrider XiED's and that cooled it right down. Simply enriches the fuel mixture from 14.6:1 to 13.8:1. Runs great. Right off I noticed slightly stronger low end, and the noticeably cooler engine. I switched to all synthetics at 1000mi too, but had already done the XiED's by then.
I'm planning on putting on a SE AC and SE Slip-on's for better breathing, and am hoping that this FI tweak with the EiED's will continue to be all I need on the FI side (avoiding downloads, other FI tuners, etc).
Haven't had all the other problems that pittguy mentions. I buy the EPA argument... the new 07's are just running too lean from the dealer.
