Default 2014 fls... Adding too much oil in the crank...

in between oil changes?

For what its worth, I have been using AMSoil since after my original lube change. Bought it in 2014 and bike runs great!
Always has and still does!
But having to add 8oz every 500mi seems excessive to me. And has been the case since early on after my stage1. The usual fuel air mix. Full exhaust 2:1 and open air cleaner. But as I said, bike runs great. No ping. No smoke. idle’s steady and is a strong bike all around. So I’m confused.
I’ve heard mixed reviews like nee rings. Or. That its normal with modern twinks.
What does the general consensus think?
Just ket it all hang out. Just don't make it an oil brand issue because oil is oil. I just happen to like AMSoil

FWIW....... I have an '01 Springer (88"), '03 Heritage (95"), and a '16 Ultra (103"). The '03 & '16 get oil changes at 5k miles, and the '01 is changed once per year (about 3k miles). I use synthetic oil in all three... I also had a '12 Limited (103") I sold with 30K miles to get the '16. I fill them to about halfway between the marks on the dipsticks.

I've never had to put oil in any of my four twin cams.... If they were down any oil, when I do an oil change (I do check the dipstick before dumping old oil) it's not enough to really notice on the stick (1/4 quart at most).

Thanks for your response hattitude. Only wish you had something more reassuring for me.
Might like to add that I am a wide open throttle kind of rider. Rarely do I ever just put. It’s always ***** to the wall. And engine temps always in the 210* mark at idle.

I have never had to add oil to either one of my twin cams. You have been here long enough to know not to fill up to the "full" mark I am sure......................so not likely that is the problem.

Agreed perki. In fact, i then to keep it slightly lower that half full as in at that level it will spit out moisture from my crank vents that I have opened to the atmosphere.
Could it be that since I do keep the level at such a low minimal, that that may cause so extra consumption?
my wife’s bike’s an 08 x bones that is also similarly equipped with a good stage 1 kit and crank venting out into atmosphere. But what’s strange is that even tho she tends to ride way more conservatively than me?, her motor usually shows a higher engine temperature rate.

While I am an occasional "spirited" rider..... I'm sure my overall riding profile is more conservative than yours...

Obviously, your admitted riding style can cause an engine to use some oil..... If the oil usage has been fairly consistent since you've owned it, perhaps it is your riding style.....

I would expect that any motor that is pushed harder than another, might use up or burn off mote oil than the other? With out any signs of wear or damage?
LOL, I also have to fuel up a bit more often than my wife as well. But not by that much. And there is quite a but of difference in cubic size between the two. So maybe not the best comparison available?

Hey Splatttttttttt.

Here is a good read for you. Its from Amsoil and discusses and explains Oil use/burn off.

Running it at just under half full would contribute to the use. Less oil means its going to run the oil at higher temps. Albeit marginal.

I hope it helps and puts your mind at ease.

@S.D.M.F
thanks a million brother. And in case I haven’t mentioned it to you personally? Your bike has always been a big time favorite of mine. Have a great collection of photos of it.
