I’m sure this has been answered but I can’t find it.
And I have a manual but it doesn’t list it.
What’s the bolt torque for the outer primary cover on a 94 FXSTC?
I read somewhere it’s 9-12 ft lb. / 108-144 in lbs.
Can someone confirm this? The gasket is new but it’s weeping.
?
What kind of gasket did you use? Those James print-O-seal gaskets are hard to beat. They seal around all the bolt holes. Does your chain case or cover have gouges from removing the old gasket material? This where a lot of leaks come in. Some "Hylomar" may be useful for sealing if absolutely necessary. It never hardens like shellac, and cleans up easily for the next time. (Dealers use and sell it) .The mating surfaces should be clean and smooth. No sealer should be necessary, but you will ultimately determine that as need be. The gasket should do the work. I have a 92 FSXTC with no leaks. Get a premium gasket and clean the mating surfaces with Scotch brite, or a plastic scraper and something to remove stuck on crud such as Isopropyl alcohol or acetone. They should be clean with an inch of their lives! Follow the tightening sequence (center out) and torque properly with some blue Loctite on the bolt threads. Make sure your inner seals primary and trans seals aren't the problem while your in there.
There are plenty of vids to watch about this....Good Luck!

Reason: addendum
New gasket, don’t remember the brand, surfaces were clean, don’t remember if I followed the bolt pattern, probably not if I couldn’t find the torque specs. I didn’t know it existed.
Now I know.
And thanks Dan, I’ll check my manual for the page you posted.
