Thanks again for the reply. I understand the thought behind it being a faulty start switch shorting out. If that was the case, why wouldn't the run/stop switch interrupt the power or even the ignition switch? Right now if the ignition is off and the run/off in the off position the signal to the starter still has 12v. Normally if either the run/off or ignition is off you can push the start button and nothing would happen.

Ok now we need to stop, sorry i didnt read the part you stating you have 12v+ being fed to the starter all the time regardless of the condition state of your main ignition switch. This is getting difficult to help as something is supplying power directly to your starter that should not. Has anyone done wiring mods to your bike prior ? (Like wire extensions for taller bars ? )

Nope, bone stock. I took the right bar cluster apart already and found the switch completely sealed. Can't get at the connections to test them. I did check the location where the wiring goes in and out of the handlebars for worn wiring but it look almost brand new. Bike only has 20K on it. I pulled the wiring schematic from the web and everything leads to the BCM. No longer any relays on the newer bikes. Looks like the signal from the start switch goes into the BCM and the BCM sends the signal out to the starter solenoid. (Softail wiring harness 1 of 2) If the link isn't allowed I'll delete the post.

Well, time for me to shut my mouth and back out of this one, I had a look and your wiring diagram vs my '06 and they are completely different. I can't be of any help and don't want to feed you BS so probably best to get a knowledgeable tech to diagnose your issue.
