Removing Black Crinkle Finish

Does anyone have any good ideas for removing the HD black crinkle finish without destroying the aluminium casting? So far it has laughed in the face of off-the-shelf paint stripper!

Probably easier to buy new cover. I suspect once and if you get that off, you'll have another issue with the finishing.

That finish may be baked on powder coat, like above, probably better to just buy a new one with whatever finish you want.

Is that a timing or a derby cover?
Either way, buy a new one.
If you really have a sentimental connection to that one, try sandblasting it.

Find a local plating shop and have them chemical dip it.
They deal with removing all kinds of finishes.

Even here in the great state of Commiefornia, we have shops capable of this.

It's the timer cover. If only they were available to purchase!

Aircraft Paint Remover will get it off if it is paint.

If APR does not get it off, mechanical means are required. I have had success with abrasive wheels and wire brushes on a drill, takes some time but will work. Then maybe a little polish after. Powder coating is tough, but it is not Kevlar, it will come off. Good luck.
