Several months ago I posted about getting Progressive fork springs to install on my 00FLSTC. Having done the same springs on my 03 Sportster, I figured one hour job at worst. A few posters told me the forks need to be removed. I disagreed but they knew what they were talking about. A bigger project than dropping in a Spring.
Yes you did and you were 100% correct. Now I have to go buy a vice suitable for holding the forks but I will get it done. Perhaps another question will arise before this is finished

Go back and read that thread
I suggested loosening the upper and lower pinch bolts on one side , drop the fork tube 4" and retighten bottom pinch bolts.
That will hold the tube while you loosen ( not remove ) the cap nut.
Slide it back up and repeat on the other side.
Then take them both out for spring replacement
Not ideal perhaps but it works

I had no problem loosening the 1 3/8 fork plugs by just lowering the bars a bit. My problem is there is another nut under that fork nut that has an external thread and an internal thread (for fork cap) and a rubber seal. #5 is the nut that keep the spring under pressure, the fork nut just dresses it up. You may be right and I just don't understand it.
I fully understand the difference between #5 & #45/46
If you would remove #45 and follow the directions above you would be able to access and loosen #5
Perhaps someone here has better communication skills and can explain it more succinctly

Fork springs went in exactly like you described. Getting up to see the pinch bolts was impossible because there is a cable tie wrapped up in the tins across the bolts. Finally located the 5/8 bolt heads you described that I couldn't find.
Another question if you have time.
Do you think the 2011 RK has the same pinch bolt set up in the triple tree as you described for STC. We have my SM but not for the King.
