That's a good idea with the hose. I used heat shrink tubing on mine.

I pulled the cover off of the stock driver seat and proceeded to take lots of the foam out of it. I used a 4" grinder with a sanding wheel on it to quickly and very messily reshape the seat. I then had the seat recovered. It only cost me $100, and it is so much better for solo riding now. Also I took one of my extra garage door openers, put it in a zip lock bag and carved out a space in the foam for it to sit near the very front of the seat. Now when I pull up in the drive I just press near the front of the seat and the garage door opens.

I should have taken some pics of this in progress, sorry. Here are some pics of the finished product tho.

I like your garage door opener idea. My FOB, wired to a dash button is in the battery box under the seat. If I ever need a new one, I have an extra door opener (non-FOB) that I can consider for this mod.

Hey txgent... it would be helpful to hear your thought process for decisions made wile trimming out your seat. Can you speak to how you determined where you chose to remove foam... did you just muse over "known pressure points" during your riding, and then 'guess' at it, or ?? Do you have a before pic?
Thanks for posting.

I drew a center line on mine and would sit on it with eyes closed in my boxers, and think of where it was pressing me. It's perfect when sitting, but I should have taken more off where the thighs hit when stopped: I can barely flat-foot the ground, since I have 2" over forks and darksided rear end. One of these rainy days I'll redo it.
I posted a thread with pics in here somewhere.

sorry i do not have any before pics really. This is about as close as I can get to a picture of the seat before I modified it.

I really just guessed at it. I knew I wanted to take a lot out of the bottom of the seat to make more of a back rest. The seat stock with out the passenger pillion on was not good at all for solo riding. I would slide off of the back if I gave it any gas. It is much better now, but I too like Quadancer did not take enough out of where it hits me in the thighs. I also need to take a little more out of the front of the seat, because now it has me leaning backwards. I did not realize that until I rode it for 300 miles yesterday. So, I will take it off and do some more to it soon.

Thanks txgent73, and Quadancer.

Meeting those guys at shows who do all that custom voodoo seat work I have found myself gawking at... I never considered seat reshaping something to attempt myself.

Those reflections make it seem more feasible, and reasonable, a diy thing to me.
Thanks.

That is some creative thinking!! Good job. Is it removable easily? The batteries do last for years otherwise it could be a little work taking the seat cover off to replace them.
