I know one's a softail and one's a dyna, I know one's counterbalanced and the other is rubber mounted...
What I'm looking for is advantages/disadvantages/thoughts/opinions/issues that are less obvious. I also know I have to ride each one and compare for myself....just asking for your .02 here.
If you are a good enough rider to take advantage of it, the Dyna is the better handling of the two. There is much more aftermarket parts availability for the Softail though.
06 onwards Wide Glides have 49mm forks Vs. 41mm for the Train.
06 onwards Wide Glides have more rake, 34 Vs. 32.
06 onwards Night Trains have a wider rear wheel/tire, 200m Vs. 160mm.
The TC 'A' motor in the Wide Glide will rev out a little faster than the TC 'B' motor also as the balanced 'B' motor has counterbalances (to quell vibrations) that add weight to the flywheel effect, if thats important, isn't to me.
I like Softails personally, but no-one cares but me.....
I had an 04 Dyna Wide Glide. It handled really well as long as I kept the front tire inflated properly. (o: Compared to to the 09 Softail Custom, the WG seemed quicker, with surprisingly strong acceleration, (even tho a TC88) whereas the Softail feels kind of draggy and has a ragged sound to it when I accelerate hard. I think that is reflective of the A vs. B motors, or maybe different gearing? The Softail with the wider rear tire does seem more stable on the freeway over rough or grooved pavement - the WG was wild at times. Style-wise, the Custom presents a different visual than the Dyna, something I like better.
