Tried to start the bike tonight to go to a buddy's to change out the exhaust. Seems like battery is dead. I put it on the charger for a while and definitely sounds like the starter. Lot's of clicking and noise. I have a $16,000 garage ornament right now
Had the same problem on my 08 Fatboy service counter prople kept telling me it was normal ....finnaly took it in to have a couple other things done and the tech came to me and asked if I had ever had problems starting it...kicking back ...acting like it was a bad battery ...told him that the service counter folks told me it was normal he replaced the starter and something else...Its done it a couple times but I think it has been my fault getting off the starter button a little quick... but its 99% better and its been almost two years now...
My '02 does it frequently. I learned to stay on the starter button when I heard it and it would re-engage and start right up after a second or two.
Last time I worked on it I pulled the battery and gave it a good 4 AMP charge for several hours. Hasn't done it since but it probably will again soon enough.
Next thing on my list is replacing the battery since it's at least 6 years old. Hopefully that takes care of for a while.
