Coop,
Could you post your impressions of the 204s after you finish? I am getting them installed later this week. I'd love to hear what you think of them after you take it for a ride.
HD - Sorry this took so long but I finally got to ride the beast today.
All I can say is wow! what a difference I am very happy, good solid pull through the gears, no popping on decel. Sweet!
The 204's don't get the credit that they deserve at times. I absolutely love mine. The power band is fairly level. They are just an all around good cam choice.
FWIW the dealer installed mine and didn't pull the top end so no worries on your original question.
The only issue that I have had with mine was a little pinging on long runs. Usually on the second tank of fuel for the day. I had them pull a couple of degrees of timing out and will find out soon enough if that fixes the problem.

I had the 204s put in 2 weeks ago, and I'm not as happy as I hoped I'd be. For starters, I do have popping on decel. Everyone has said that the carb probably needs to be rejetted, but the local indie doesn't agree. He said that it was most likely rejetted after the new pipes and air cleaner were installed. I bought the bike used, so I am not sure if it was rejetted or not. Also, I can feel a slight increase in torque, but not what I was hoping or expecting. Major bummer!!
that sux!! i can feel the difference with my andrews and havent even reved it yet because i went to 1550 so have to run in for a while!but its lumpy and wants to go

Sorry to hear you are not as thrilled as you expected.
I knew going in that the 204 is a broad band cam and lucky for me I found a map that matched my set up exactly (except I run torque cones).
It defiantly widened the power band and woke up my throttle response. It sounds way better at idle and so far no sign of popping.
I hope you get yours sorted out.

Why would your indie ASSUME ( *** u me ) it has been rejetted? MOCO took their 203's
and just advanced them 4 degrees for more torque - very smooth and pulls hard every-where but needs a idle mix screw adj and needle swap at the least for a carb scoot. IMHO
I am not sure why he assumed it. I asked the dealer when they did the install if they thought the carb would need to be rejetted, and they said the same thing; it was probably already done. I also added BCT baffles a few months ago and I think they are contributing to the problem as well.

Actually rejetting is done by needle replacement with ne from an 1988 Sportster # N65C
part # 27094-88. Also pop the cap that covers the idle mixture screw and set it 2 1/2 to
3 turns out for starters. If that cap is still on your carb, I'd bet no changes have been
made to it. IMHO.
