So, I've had my '05 Heritage for about two weeks. I've hit a problem - on longer rides (like more than 20 minutes!) my right inner thigh that rests just above the rear cylinder head gets REAL hot. Now granted, temps have been way north of 100 degrees all this time. But this is aggravating to say the least. I've taken to riding with one of those welder pads that keeps heat off things, but I mean how uncool is that? Anybody else had this problem and if so, what did you do about it.
I make a heat shield that goes under your seat. You can see it on my bike in my gallery. I ride in Florida all the time, and if you have ever been here, you know what hot is. No more uncomfortable heat.
Sounds like a little excessive heat to me.. My 08 Ultra was hot like that and the 06 Roadking was a close second. Of the 2 Heritages I've owned.. A 99 and now a 2010 I've not experienced any excessive heat problems calling for welders pant.. In fact I do often ride wearing shorts!
If you feel that your rear Jug is running hotter then it should and have to result in welders pants just for comfort then perhaps there's a problem that needs further investigation before resulting to one of thoes heat shield thingies. Perhaps running a little rich..
We are a sponsor here on the forum and have excellent feed back on our crotch coolers...They work very well and are very easy to install.. Here is a link about our products let us know if we can help you out.. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...that-work.html
Maybe even a set of floorboard extensions may help. Getting your leg a little further out, my create a little bit more airflow. I would say it's all because of the 100+ temps you are experiencing. I have a '03 Heritage with the 88B, andit gets quite warm to, on 100+ temp rides. Keep us informed if the problem persists into the cooler months.
I would like to add that our crotch cooler covers the dipstick and will create a barrier so your leg will not touch the oil tank and burn you..this is a problem for a lot of people especially with short legs..It will of course just lift up so you can check your oil..
