Default 1996 FXSTS rear tire upgrade????

Anyone out there know if it's possible, and if so, what it takes to put a 180 tire on a 1996 softail springer?

Might as well go 200...can do it for the same price. I just put this kit on my bike...works very well. It has a much better looking swingarm than the wide-*** brand.

I put a 17" x 4.5" 160 duece wheel on my 99 fxstc using stock swingarm and let me tell you it was a lot of work but it looks awesome and sitting next to my buddies 08 fatbob with the 180 you cant really tell the difference!

I put a 140 metzler on my stock 99 Fxstc and it worked out ok as it sits a little higher than does most w/out rubbing the belt.

I also put a 16 inch chrome thunderstar wheel and tire on the front end with a fatboy fender as I never cared for 21 inch skinny tire look.

I like the kit Tom84! Did you have to cut off the original fender mount horns on your frame? If you don't mind, what additional $$ did you have in the fender and other incidental parts you had to complete your conversion? i like the idea of a 200mm. Bike looks great!

Frame horns have to go for a 200. I bought a used tire and wheel for a 2007 Softail for $225 and a fender for $150 off ebay...painted it my self. The second link a posted was more expensive but more complete kit. It is a major deal to install...not for the faint of heart. If you decide to do it, PM me and I will send you many pics of the install.

I'm new to this so I don't know if I'm even in the right place. But I'm trying to put a 200 wide tyre on my 91 softail. I've owned this bike for 30yrs so I'm not interested in upgrading. It took 10yrs to go from shovel to Evo not big on change. Doing mods on Harley's is second nature. I've done alot of reading and there doesn't seem to be any agreement on whether it is possible to use 2007 swing arm ,brake and wheel.
I know you need 3/4 pulleys and correct offset wheel and shocky relocation. I'm a welder so any cutting and welding is easy. I'm not concerned with guards and struts and seat that stuff is obvious. The kits on line seemed to be using 2007 swing arms. This shouldn't be that hard it's a very simple design. Any solid advice from someone who has do it would be great. Not here say I've read heaps of that with no actual help.
Thanks
