im looking for the best sounding fishtail exhaust any suggestions ,i have a 2000 model with carb,i want loud but not obnoxious and it must have a deep tone .
You might not want to wait, but I'm installing Cycle Shack slip-ons to my fishtails on my 97, but not for a few weeks. I've heard them on a Road King and they are perfect. They aren't to loud, but they are deep and throaty. My HD mechanic says the quality of the chrome os good and improved perfermance is another benefit.........and this is from a guy who puts on all kinds of aftermarket pipes. They have removable baffles just in case you want ot make them louder. You can see the styles on their website. I hope this helps.......a little.
I have a pair of Samsons that I really like the sound nice rumble - but they are a little loud.
I also had trouble with the baffles coming loose. They are not removable. So I drilled holes and put in sheet metal screws on the back side. This also came loose, So I finaly welded via the screw holes and this has done the trick
Samson has two different sets of mufflers. One is the slipons for your regular exhaust pipes and the others are for the true dual setup that they sell. Make sure you order the right ones for your setup.
I have the true duals with the silver bullet fishtails. They have a good sound, definitely different from other pipes with round tips. Not real loud...I go to work around 4 am each morning...no "neighbor" complaints after 3 years...but loud enough for attention.
I haven't had any problems with loose anything. They did blue/gold on the chrome head pipes but I don't really care about that. The new pipes that Samson sells are 220' heat shielded so they say the coloring doesn't happen.
