Default Remove spring when replacing lowers?

I'm getting ready to take my forks apart to install new lowers. On some instructional videos they remove the spring cap and pull the spring when doing this.

Others vids do it w/o pulling the spring. I'm 99% sure this isn't necessary but I figured I'd double check before diving in.

Is there any good reason to do this?

No need to pull the springs. Good luck.

Thanks mcrider. I have bigger problems now. Can't get the freaking damper screw out of the bottom of the lower. Using a wobble ended allen was the first mistake but fortunately I didn't mess the screw up too much.

Made a square ended allen out of one of my t-handled allens and tried it with my 1/2" impact wrench. Screw didn't budge. Tried using a impact tool to break it. No luck.

Next I'm going to borrow my brother's 3/4 impact and see if that has more power. If they're in there that tight I have a feeling I'm going to end up breaking them off like I've read about so many others doing.

Yeah, wobble head allen is the first mistake. Don't ask me how I know...

Hahaha, I screwed mine up too. I ended up welding a bolt onto the stripped out head to get the damm thing out.

I really feel lucky now . For me it was just a matter of not having the right tools. My worn out airgun was the biggest problem but the wobble ended allens I got from Sears didn't help.

At least I was able to take those back and get my $52 refunded.

Yeah, like others have said, removing the springs is not necessary.

Wish I could get my $52 back, but that's how I made my new flat end allen.
