i have the fatboy lo i just bought chrome fender strut bolts part number 94692-08 the kit has 10 bolts 10 washes. the fatboy lo has one bolt on each side has no washer on it i wonder with the new kit i bolt if i could use thr new chrome washer on it all the other bolts have the washers on it . thanks for the help
Make sure the bolts are the proper length. You can feel under the fender at the nutplate to make sure they are not protruding. I got some to replace the studs/sissy bar bracket bolts on my Heritage when I run without the bags or passenger seat. Of course the dealer didn't have exactly what I wanted and I wound up cutting a couple down. I don't know for sure if it would happen, but I envisioned the possibility of them getting into the tire if I bottomed out
Yes you can. Tape your fender when takimg out originak bolts.
Hi, can someone please clarify what this means? Do you mean put tape around where the bolts are? Will removing them damage the chrome or something? Will the tape prevent this?
Also, I'd like to get the chrome bolts for the rear fender struts, but I'm not sure if I should get the "official" ones from Harley, or the generic sets I see on eBay, or just go to the hardware store and find something that will work. And do they need to be grade 8? I saw many on eBay bragging on the fact that they were grade 8. Thanks so much for any recommendations you all might have!
The tape around the bolt is because you would not be the first - or the last - one where the TORX bit slips out of the bolt and you're left with a nice scratch on your fender ....
HD uses some pretty strong Loctite on those bolts. If they are too difficult too get out, heat them up with a soldering iron.
I used the HD ones - lived in Malaysia at the time, no decent parts shop where I lived. If you got a good nut and bolt place where you are you can just pick your bolts up there. As for grade 8 ... don't know, but for those few extra bucks, why skimp?
