I wonder how much heat the paint will take. Not too much I guess...

A couple of questions; when it's time to press out the stem - it goes upwards, right? Towards the triple tree? Any tips on how to set it up in the press? Use a jig?

Now that the fork will become an inline springer - is it possible to fit original type springer handlebars like those on original pre-49 springers?
Is this going on a springer classic? I've had the kit sitting in garage for couple years also. Unsure if I want to use it. Can't wait to see more pics.

Yup, it's an 05 Classic. I gave the stem a couple of whacks with a sledgehammer and it didn't do anything except to ruin the threads so now it's a no return operation. A friend who works at a local power plant is going to help me as they have a state of the art workshop.

Here'a pic of the current status. According to international law, the only tires allowed on a bobber is the Avon MKII and Firestones. The Springer is getting Avons and its buddy Tonto rolls on Firestones...

When you go to assemble put the new stem in the freezer.. For a few hours, it will help.

For furure reference. There's an angeled area on the bottom side of the fork so that you can put a socket or a pipe to make the stem line up in the press. If you do it wrong it'll bend or snap.

As you can see, the area surrounding the stem hole is angeled. That's where you have to put the support.
