I had the stock shocks with the lowering bolts to what seems like 2.25" or so. The ride was as if i was on a hardtail. My A$$ would be sent off the seat in some bumps and my lower back was dying.

I went to 422 and now have the bike lowered about 1.4" or so and it's a much improved ride.

The cheap is the same as the expensive, OK, maybe check the Steel grade but they should all be the same.
The ride quality will suck, but the expensive one will give you the same ride quality.

I had the cheap one for 3 years then went to 422's.

If you are solo and do not drop it all the way down you will be OK.

I actually went with the kit from http://www.softailloweringkit.com and am not only happy but impressed. There's no need to remove the shocks. I lowered it 1.5" in a few simple steps.

Just jack the bike, remove the 2 front nuts, raise the rear wheel, remove and replace the front cups, remove the steel sleeve from the threaded shaft, insert a 1/2" collar spacer, lower the rear wheel and replace the front nut with the provided one. Easy 20 minute job, without needing to remove or disassemble the rear suspension.
There's a video in their website; watch it a couple of times and be amazed how simple it is.
