Reading these posts makes me wonder if my speedo is off. My sb with se intake and bub pipes the other day pulled hard all the way to a little over 110 and I let off for slow vehicles up ahead. That was in 5th gear. next good road and calm dry weather ill get it in 6th once I hit 110 and see how it pulls.
I have tried to see how fast I can go in 6th and at 90 it feels like it dosent want to, but in 5th its still pullin hard. I guess 6th is intended to strictly be an overdrive cruising gear.
Nope your speedos not off, since I got the stage one A/C, V&H slip-ons & dealer map (yea its a cheep fix for now) mine will pull great up to 5th gear to about 115ish, after that its a slow climb going down hill with a tail wind.
6th gear from my experiance is strictly a cruising gear for 75 to 90.
Although some folks seem to think 6ths great at 65 going uphill on a curvy road, then wondering why thier bikes broke own at the top of the pass (met a dude like that this year)
That's interesting. I wonder if Harley has a speed governor on 6th gear. I can get up to about 105 at half throttle but it just won't pull anymore. If I kick it down to 5th it starts pulling again. I can't say for sure but perhaps?
and it wont care if you are two up or one up, so what is the point?
i run good tires, on my hd, and the best i can get on my sportbike. my tires are not any worry to me at all. a brick laying in the road over the next rise, yeah. thats what being alert is about. and not riding like that except on an open road, that you are familiar with. there are a few roads i could name (which i wont, local riders know the ones) around here, if you are running under a 100 on a weekend, you are getting run over or passed nonstop, one up or two up.
The point is, it's stupid on the open road. I did it and it was stupid.
Stretches of desert road with very few other drivers.
Unlike a closed circuit track where the variables are taken care of. Track condition, no chunks of tires, no animals, oil slicks, etc.
Plus anyone else on the track knows the risks unlike the open public roads.
Don't know about SC, but here in Florida--if you're speeding it's a ticket--if you're doing the exact same speed with another vehicle (racing) it could mean time under the jail.
Sorry, but I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon. Street racing is just plain dumb. Speeding with a passenger is even dumber. Maybe it's a GOOD thing that your sled can't hit the ton. I'd forget the cams, and use the money for a rider's safety course.
maybe you were in 3rd? maybe you didnt shift out of third!
i hit buck twenty five easy with a mostly stock (bore, heads, carb) 80 inch EVO that is pretty tired right now and needing reringed. thats two up on it.
Come on man... didnt shift gears???

Done taken that course, but thanks for idea.
Dickey... not trying to be a a$$ but if your the type, which you are, that is not into going fast and "street racing" dont you think u should have just skipped over this tread? I asked 2 questions, and i promise 1 was not "Dick, what do you think about my decision to go fast?"
I totally understand having ur own opinion and that cool, but this thread was not about YOUR opinion. And there is no need for u to respond and turn this into big deal so please dont. You said ur peace i said mine ....ballgame, lets get a beer!
Now to the guys that gave examples and contributed.... Thanks, and seems yall all agree on one thing; my scoot sux! haha
Will a simple SE204(or similar) cam do the trick or should i stick with the 103 III kit?

The 204 will give decent top end the 211's will give even more but they do take awhile to wind them out. I went with andrews 48's which give mid and low power I can hang with my dad's vrod now on my fatty.
The one thing you might check, if you already haven't: Is the throttle opeing up all the way???? I have a 2007 Softail Heritage PO edition. Bought it new. I decided to lube the throttle and check the cables and air cleaner as I do all my own maint. I found that at the factory they didn't adjust the cables/throttle valve. Therefore full throttle was about 3/4 throttle. So I readjusted all per the manual. I posted this a couple of years ago. I asked the H-D shop about it and they don't normally check this when setting up a bike. Check yours!
Smokey, I have had 3 fatboys and none of them will do much past 115. That does include pipes / tune and ac. Dont feel bad its the way they are. I think it should have been a little closer but maybe the car had some mods.
wasnt my old lady, was somebody elses.
and thats mild. i ride 145plus on the sportbike two up. with my gf on it. maybe some of us are better iders than others it seems.
I have been as fast as 165 two up before. just to see. stable as a rock onmy old 1100 crotch rocket.
I'm sure every passenger that has been killed on the back of a bike was riding behind someone who felt the exact same way... up until something happened.

I think the point is the difference between the responsibility for ones own well being vs the responsibility of someone else's well being who is putting their life in your hands.

You might want to add that it's their choice and I'm all for their rights. It's me and my wife and grand-kids at the next stop light that the fool kills. And talks about it here openly like they have a right to do it. Shame on them.
