I'm taking my street slammers off of my 06 FXSTI. If you guys could post a list of what I need from wiring to gaskets or whatever. What you guys list is what I'm going to pickup and use. I'm running 16 inch flanders 1 1/4, with 1.5 inch risers. Bars are 1 1/4 all the way around. I want to use steel braided cables. I need to know what lenths I should get and what wire kits to get too. I'm mechanicaly inclined so no worries there. Just after 4 Harleys never changed my own bars before.
Thanks for any help. I will also post pics of the bike before and after.
Its acually pretty easy to do. Did mine over winter and its one of the best mods ive done yet. No more back pain at all.
You need.
Handles bars obviously.
Risers if you need different ones
Poly bushings
Wire extensions or spend a little extra and get the control kit from harley
Clutch cable
Throlttle Cable
Idle Cable
Brake Cable
Clutch cable Cover gasket
1 Qt Amsoil 75w90 (well thats what i used for Trans Fluid)
1 Bottle Brake Fluid. I belive DOT4
New clamp for fuel line cross over
I can help you with lenght on the cable as i only did 12" bars But mine took +6' cables. I used Magnum Black Pearl Cables I am happy with them they seem nice
went to the dealer and the guy in the shop thats orders parts was real cool about getting me part numbers and such. only thing is he said that i would have to build a brake line if i wanted my lines to look like they curve the same, clutch and brake line. what is the right brake line length and can i just order it somewhere like Drag Spec.?
I don't know if this will help you or not but I just put 16" x 1 1/2" x 41" wide bars on my Deluxe. Your FXSTI should be 2" taller in the front than my FLSTN and I used a 54" brake line. So, I would say you should need about a 56" brake line unless you've lowered the front a couple of inches. I called up Hill Country Custom Cycles and told him what bars and risers I had and that I wanted Motion Pro cables and he sent me the right lengths. 39" Throttle/Idle cables, 74" Clutch cable and a 54" Brake line.

I like the fact that there are no splices in the middle of the bars. Its the same as if the bike came stock with internally wired bars. But it is more expensive and you need a special crimp tool to do the molex style crimp.
ok so this is what I got
-LA Choppers cable kit
-Novello wire kit
-trans gasket
-poly bushings
-performance machine grips (cause they feel really nice!!!)
- trans fluid
-brake fluid
-06 softail service manual
Anything I'm missing? I know the kits come with banjo bolts and etc.
