I just dropped mine off and will pick it up Friday. It will be ready tomorrow, but I told him I had to go back to town Friday any way and would get it then.
found a motorcycle shop guy who will cut mine down for $70, takes a day or 2 but that's no biggie - one nice thing about a detachable windshield! He says he'll have me sit on the bike and measure the shield for the perfect fit. I'll drop it in on Friday and can wait till next week - sounds like a Hurricane might be headed our way.
I'd shop around. That seems a little steep. Or check out Long Ride Shields. They have 40% off right now.
I used a Roto-zip... cuts the shield really easy and smooth,, just keep U hands steady, and don't let it climb cut..
Even better is to practice cutting above Ur mark where U want to end up. Just to get the feel of how easy she'll cut.
took about 2-3 mins to cut mine down 2ins. after about 10 mins to lay it out and tape her off, then another 5 - 10 mins to smooth edges.
covered the bike and done it with the shield in place on her.
My shield comes home today. I will take the bike and pick up shield in a couple hours. I have a new shop that opened up on the way that sells motorcycle apparel and bags so I will stop and look for a windshield and saddlebags while in town.
I spent ages looking for anybody locally cheaper than $70 but nobody else would touch a windshield except this guy. I've taken the bike over to him today, he has my windshield and is going to cut 3" off (we measured the optimum spot). I'll get it back next Wednesday my next day off. It's really weird riding without a shield, very noisy but the bike handles a little lighter. I kinda like it but not for highway.
I just got home from picking up my windshield from the glass company. They trimmed off two inches exactly like I had asked and the windshield does not look like anyone cut it at all. They did a super job doing it and the bill was......$11.55. The .55 was tax. They charged me only $11.00 to do the cut and that was removing all the hardware from the shield and cutting and then buffing the edges and reinstalling the hardware on shield. I knew it would be a very reasonable charge, but had no idea it would be absolutely ridiculous. That was the cost of a lunch, not an arm and a leg. I already do all my business with them now, but went to the Harley dealer and told them what a good deal it was so they can recommend the glass company for their work as well.
