Can anyone help me with the best way to remove the baffles on my fatboy lo 2012. I have a set of very silent screaming eagle pipes. I've been able to take one bolt off in hours of trying. My intent is to remove the fiberglass packing off the baffles. Any help out there. Thanks.
Removing the fiberglass will only make a more tinny sound. The pipes you have aren't meant to be loud. If you want some more sound you'll new to get different pipes.
I have some SE Slip Ons on a '10 Heritage. The dealer cut the baffles in half and reinstalled them. They aren't as loud as the old SE IIs and to use jbg's words they do sound a bit "tinny" when you get on it. Kinda like old burned out glass packs now that I think about it. They don't sound bad at idle, but I would not say they sound great either. I am pretty sure you can get after market baffles that fit and will get you more the sound you are looking for. If I wasn't spending all my money on gas, oil and tires, the SE pipes would be in the shed with the other stuff I spent too much money on and don't have the heart to take to the dump.
I have cobra slipons, love them all in all, but want them to have some more rumble. They only sound "mean" when you got on the throttle. Other than that they just had a little rumble. I romoved the baffle wrapping and place the baffles back in. They have a nice throaty rumble at idle, much better than before. No power loss or back pressure loss from what I've noticed. No rattle or snappy sound like I have seen some people comment about. Overall very happy and glad I did it. Also the chrome tips at the end of the muffler comes out with one screw. The baffle is connected to that tip...no hassle with removal. The baffle has a snug fit on both ends even without the packing ( no rattle even possible). I talked to a cobra technician, they said they recommend this mod to those who want a more throaty sound. Hopes this helps someone make a decision!
See if American Custom Exhaust in Conn. can help. My brother and I had them core our mufflers and they have various noise level baffles available. VERY REASONABLE and good folks to deal with. They are a site sponsor here also (list on lower left/this page). They have a good website. Good luck.
Let me see. I would look into BCT baffles. They are economical and sound good. Removing my baffles was a battle of epic proportions. I won. Remove slip ons, get a 1 inch round 5 foot long piece of metal pipe. Have a friend Hold or wrap and lightly grip in vice. Get an 8lb sledge hammer and the battle is over in 5 minutes or less. Remove the bolt, beat from the top end out.
