So I have the itch to turn my blackline into a bagger with front faring and hard bags. Any ideas on where to get the bags and fairing from?
I want something different and love the ride of my blackline but want something more usable for longer trips. Ideas on how the blackline would look? Money isn't a huge deal as I know this can get expensive. Thanks for your thoughts and input
Ive seen a small fairing on the blackline and it doesnt look too bad (no idea who makes it, saw it on youtube), do a search here in the forum for blackline saddlebags, there is an outfit that makes a set that can fit without moving your tailights, I toyed with the bagger idea but my personal taste ruled against it, went with the sissy and a sissy pack for the long rides to keep the bike cleaner.
Um.....wear a flannel shirt and gloves? Instant fairing. I can't stand to ride with any type of windshield or fairing obscuring the road and wind ahead. But, if you like it, more power to you. The bags wouldn't be bad. I'd see about finding the leather-wrapped hard bags. I've seen those on quite a few softails, so I wouldn't think that would be hard to come by.
I've searched through numerous catalogs for you regarding the fairing idea, and the best I have found are windshields. The closest to a "fairing" would be the batwing windshield. Personally, I think it looks ridiculous, but I have had a couple friends use similar set-ups and really enjoy it. So, your call.
I know memphis shades makes a pretty decent looking batwing, but I can't find anything about it fitting an FXS. Most of the others, but not that one. I'm not an expert on model differences, but I have to figure it's not listed for a reason.
Not a whole lot of help for you, but maybe you'll glean something from it. Hope all goes well, and remember that it is YOUR bike. Don't let anyone sway you away from a mod based only on opinions. As they say, "feelings come and go".
Truthfully I'm looking for something more comfortable and that I can ride longer distances. I would finish my 72 iron head chop for a bar hopper. I could just sell the blackline and buy a street glide but I'd love something different
Nick, I can understand the "wanting to be different" sentiment. However, you also have to look at practical and functional issues ahead of you. If the thought of swapping for a tourer has come to mind, I highly suggest you do it. If you are concerned with baggers being an "old man's" bike, guess again. Much has been done in the world of Tourers. Some of the sickest builds come directly from using a Streetglide platform.
If comfort is an issue, nothing beats a Tourer. I just hate to see you attempt making your bike something it's not when your desires clearly rest in Tourer territory. In the end, I think you'd be much happier going this route. Mods would at least look like they flowed. Making a Blackline a bagger would be "different", but more in the weird sense that you wouldn't be better for.
Before doing anything, check out the bagger section of this site. Look at some of the mods people do to their bikes and then tell me they're not "different" and awesome. I truly believe that's a better route for you. Bit, as always, it's still your call.
