Smile little deers

Well join the deer slayer club. I tboned(funny hu) one years ago on my FXWG. Just dusk and on a curve and seen the deer in plenty of time. Slowed way down and watched them move off into the field to my right. Kicked the speed back up and I swear a big doe made a cut and jump that Deon Sanders would have been proud of. Smacked her dead center and same as you didn't go down but came to a stop pretty quick with a deer on the head light and bakes hard on. I'm sitting in the middle of a two lane road and my left leg is bent back with my foot under the seat. I can't get loose and so can't put down the kick stand. Finally a car sees me and stops to see what the hell I'm up to. He sees the deer dragging itself of and being from California(license plate) is worried about the deer. I says hell with the deer help me get my foot out from under the seat(more limber in those days). He's pulling on my leg and says oooh your covered in poop. Said I didn't know if it was the deers or mine. Anyway, damage control-head light bent; front rim bent but tire holding air; shifter bent and tranny stuck in third gear; left tank dented(sucked because that was Harleys original flame job on the 1980 FXWG); and after limping around for awhile figured my foot wasn't broke but the heel was missing on my cowboy boot. Hammered the rim lip back to shape with a block of wood and a hammer without even taking the tire off. Going through Nebraska and needed a new front tire about a year later and the tire guy says you hit a dog cause the rims full of hair. Nope, just a deer. He just stares.

There is a new LED that would fit your bike, costs $100 less and looks much more old school as well.

Tony,

I'm sorry about your injuries and the damage to your bike. Think positive; it could have been much worse and it is approaching winter so you won't be riding much anyway. You now have time to recover.

As you've seen from the others responses, it will come down to HID vs LED. I would disregard any argument about which one is brighter because there is support for both sides. You'll have to choose for yourself. There is no question that HID is less expensive than LED. If you choose LED, Truck-Lite is less expensive than HD. Yes, I know, everything is less expensive than HD. The HD LED Reflector headlamp is new [HD part 67700189]. This is the first year it has been out so I cannot offer you any comparison to the HD Daymaker LED headlamp [HD part 73391-10A].

Do what you normally do and purchase what is best for you. If you are concerned about rocks getting kicked up and taking out your headlight than you might as well put the stock incandescent back in.

For the greatest visibility, I would remount the passing lamps. That will mean you have to remove your Ness chrome cowbells or modify the passing lamp bracket. I would also install what Redbeard mentioned; the Independent Control Auxiliary Lamp wire harness kit [HD part 69200442]. It is a $30 wire harness that allows your passing lamps to remain on with the high beam. It will maximize peripheral illumination at night.

Personally, I chose the HD LED Daymaker and LED passing lamps.

Get well brother.

The only problem with HID is if you dont use a projector inside, your gonna blind everyone in front of you..ive got the 5 3/4 daymaker in mine, its just as bright as my car with hids.the new one looks so much better also...

I just got the TL P7 headlight in the mail today. Took 5 minutes to install. I'll update with pics when it gets dark, but until then I found this great in depth review: http://bogiesreviews.webs.com/Review...ng%20Lamps.pdf
