Bike has been on battery tender for about 2 weeks now, and because of rain it (battery tender) has been sitting on the seat.
Bike will not start now and security goes nuts, flashing etc. The battery in the FOB shows 2.75 volts and will be replaced this afternoon but the bike will not even click when the starter is pressed. The bikes battery shows 12.5 volts -- and the fuel pump runs.
It will not let me bypass security to start, or do anything for that matter. All fuses test good also.
I can eventually get the security system to show me the screen to put the pin number in but after one or two numbers it returns to the odometer and lights, blinkers etc. flash like crazy. It will also not show me the pin number after going through that routine either. Seems like the security system is toast.
The bike should turn over without the FOB - just not start - but it wont.
Just sitting there everything looks normal, the red key light blinks as it should - bump the bike and it flashes the blinkers - but turn on the ignition (with or without FOB) and it freaks out.
Soooo.....
Any ideas I can try before I ship it off to the shop?
Darn - I forgot - it's an 07 Springer Classic.
Will change battery this afternoon (I live 30 miles from nearest store that sells that type of bat) and follow up here. Thanks
Same thing happened to me on a trip a few weeks ago...called my hd mechanic buddy and he told me i was nuts and just change the fob battery...i owe him a beer, he was right...
Hope its that easy for you.
I had gremlins in the electrical system. After removing the battery cables and letting it sit for a few hours it rebooted the ECM and security system when I put them back on. I was then able to override security and start the bike with my pin number. I believe that leaving the battery tender next to the security module for such a long time probable caused some kind of interference which resulted it the chaotic events. My wife arrived with a new FOB battery about that time and everything is fine now. I did not test the old battery again but I believe it would have worked - we are only talking .25 volts here; from 3 to 2.75 volts. But, the old battery was around 1 1/2 years old anyway so I went with the new one. Great wife, she bought a spare FOB battery too! Back to normal now. Boy, if I could just get her to blow a $100 bucks on a new mat battery for the bike now, hummmmm?
