Default Badboy Springer Evo questions:

Looking at a 1996.

I have been told that that engine had/has issues. Is this true and, if yes, what might they be and what should I look for please?

Any other pointers for the potential buyer?

Thanks!

It's a proven, 80 cubic inch Evo motor. I'd be more concerned with how it was maintained over any "inherent" issues. Jump on it if the price is right--that's a bad bike!

Some have had issues with inner cam bearing and weeping base gaskets. By 96 they pretty much had it figured out. The Evo is one of the best Harley ever made.

Well, for here (Thailand), I think it's overpriced, but I'll wait and see how long it stays advertised and maybe make an offer.

It "looks" clean, but I'll need to go and see it. It's right where I used to live in the middle of Bangkok. Here's a link to the ad:
http://www.bahtsold.com/view/harley-...-183141?doqs=1

Vehicles (especially Harleys) are expensive here, due to very high import taxes and ripoff dealers, but I reckon he's asking a good $2 grand (B63,000) too much. Very pretty bike though.

What else do I need to know about that model please?

thats a pretty clean bike. Low mileage I would think 9-10k here if it has less than 10k on it.If it's 12,5 over there I would think without paying import fees and paperwork that's fair.
I have a 96 with Aqua scallops that has 65k on it and it has never been apart. It uses no oil. The silver scallops bikes were the lowest production color so add a couple bucks for that. 96's were pretty much bulletproof. You might not ever see one on the road over there.

His asking price is USD$21,000.

We do pay double what you do and sometimes more. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

He doesn't mention how many Kms and it likely wouldn't be verifiable and/or believable even if he did.

From what you are saying, the price may be about right. Snag is, that I don't know anyone here who can give me a pointer on this.

What should I be looking for specifically? Fork bearings? Where are the wear points on them?

If under 30k miles and not leaking that's worth $9-10k stateside like BackAgain says. Looks very original other than tires. And very clean. I agree, you'll never see another one on the road.

Just got a message from the seller, saying it has just over 37,000 Kms on it. That's about 23,000 miles. Seeing it on Saturday.

Ok, leaks, noisy top-end.

Anything else of note?
