I left the house around noon today for a little solo ride. 250 miles later I am back home. Shirt sleeve weather all day. I wandered around western NC for the most part. The Blue Ridge Parkway is essentially closed from Hwy 74 to Hwy 221. There are small sections open, but you have to back track since about 15 miles total are closed. It is supposed to open up in late April. Hopped back on the Parkway at Hwy 221 and road north about 20 - 25 miles no problems, just great riding. On the way back down I pick up Highway 181 from the Parkway down to Morganton. Man what a great ride. It has been many years since I traveled that stretch and it is in good shape, minimal traffic, wide curves and a great view for the most part. I was enjoying myself so much I didn't even pay attention to how far I had ridden until I looked down and saw it was time for fuel.
Next time you are in the area, give a hollar. Familiar with 181, great road. Many others, hard to go wrong. Hwy. 126 between Morganton and Nemo (Lake James) is a keeper. Spent Sunday in the mountains also. Intersection of Hwy. 18 & the Parkway (mile post 248) (Laurel Springs) is a good little dive on Sundays. Called Stations Inn, decent chow, cold fluids, biker friendly. Check it out some nice Sunday. Bring the rest of the upstate folks along.
Phat03 warm air is coming to a town near you soon. The trees are budding here, nasty pollen everywhere. BUT I'M NOT COMPLAINING!!! Where is my Claritin?[:'(]
Rusty I wish I could have gone with you to get the mascot. I had a band competition with my son on Saturday (last one for this year) and didn't get home until 3:15 a.m. I knew I was going to sleep in. I'm currently at the beach will be home toward the end of the week. I am going to Auto Fair at Lowes Speedway one day this weekend (driving the truck, going to look for parts for the old muscle car I am working on). I will try to hook up with you guys sometimes over the weekend.
