Test fit a prototype keyless ignition switch/coil bracket. Not sure
if the OL will like it. Might have to go to plan B....

Guess thats the whole point (or a big part of) this thread. ie) the mount for the switch.
T.
I asked him to share. Useful because the street bob has the same issue as the sporty in terms of going keyless. Same wiring too.

How much did your folks charge you for the mount and how do i get in touch with them?

It appears to me that the Street Bob can add a console to house the switch.
I haven't seen a console for a Sporty that would take this switch easily (or look right)

WAY more than you'd want to pay (more than I wanted to pay too, but hrs add up)
A buddy of mine that did this by the hour & said he didn't care to make another
one as it was a PITA. I'd recommend using the V-Twin mount I posted above
and work from there. I may still do that too, jury is still out...

good luck,

T.

Hi Guys,

Great thread! I read it all but I'm still not sure what parts I need (beyond a way to mount the switch). What switch works for an 07 XL1200C? I've never pulled my ignition off so I'm not sure how many wires are back there etc.

I have the factory alarm with radio shack siren. Bike won't start without FOB already, but I'd like to get rid of the key and be able to keep fob in pocket. It looks like the switch you guys are using has a round key... is that optional? Like you can choose to lock the ignition or not?

either switch type will do.

the key locks the switch in "off" position but, it is not needed at all. with the switched unlocked, you can just walk to the the bike, turn switch to on/ign, hit start, and be on your way. on a bike with no security/simple vin pin this is bad, for obvious reasons.

i'm going with the drag specialties switch and the hd adapter because i want the locking clamp and don't like chasing gremlins. you don't have to to that at all. you can use a blade connection without the adapter.

the stock older sporty ign. switch has three wires coming off of it that match up to the three blades on the big twin switches. you can patch blade connections in with butt connectors or something like that. i'm just playing it safe so i can, if needed, easily UNDO the mod with no need for wire tomfoolery after the initial work.

mid usa version (left, meant for older bikes) drag version ( right, 03-13 p/n 2106-0224)

I'd recommend you get a Factory Service Manual, great reference material if you're
gonna be doing any mods.

As stated previously, the StreetBob switch has a lock under the side-hinge door that just locks the switch in the off position.
Do NOT use this without a factory alarm or some other theft-deterent as this switch is fairly easy to defeat.

In my '13 service manual, to replace the Ign Switch it says to cut it off 3" from the
end and use splice connectors on the new one. So hows that for "easy to go back
to stock" ? It would appear the '14's on are easier - more "plug & play".

went the washing mac.. work bench and and cobbled together my switch harness.

i left the ends molested because i'm now considering a better connection and am still thinking about undoing or being able to quickly and cleanly revert to stock with the same ease as a 2014+ bike.

ordered both a and b.

a:
Amazon.com: Diageng 5 Set 3 Pin Way Car Waterproof Electrical Connector Plug with Wire AWG: Automotive Amazon.com: Diageng 5 Set 3 Pin Way Car Waterproof Electrical Connector Plug with Wire AWG: Automotive

b:
Amazon.com: BCP 5 Kits Weatherproof Electrical 3 Pin Way Connector: Automotive Amazon.com: BCP 5 Kits Weatherproof Electrical 3 Pin Way Connector: Automotive
(cancelled order) type a is what is used on the bikes O2 sensors... just remembered. sticking with a.

Might check a different diagram - think my Accessory circuit is shown on a different
schematic page than the Ign Run/On circuit.

good luck,
