what i did was grind one nub on one side only on the key so i can take it out with the ignition on..then interrupted one of the wires that goes to the switch,i believe it was the hot,ran it to my toggle switch to complete and break the circuit.when i ride my bike to work,i lock the steering while bike is warming up with key in my pocket.may not be for everyone but thats how i like it on mine.i did this because my key was getting marks in it like others have had happen and didnt want it to break on me.my problem solved.and if i ride to a store and i will be in thre for a couple of minutes, ill turn ignition off with the key and disable toggle switch.
