Default Help getting throttle cables off

Could anyone please tell me the best way to remove he throttle cables from the carb, it looks like you just need to turn the round ball at the end of the cable and pull it out of the housing but easier said than done... 86 Sportster 883 if that helps

Did you already loosen the cables at the hand throttle. It's not a round ball but a drum or barrel shaped piece. With enough slack you pull the cable until it is 90 degrees to the slot. this allows you to move the barrel end out the side.

i did not loosen cables on handle bars, there was a little slack in the cables on the carb end so I thought I could get away with that little bit of slack

roll back the rubber covers, loosen the lock nut. turn the adjusters so that the most thread is exposed.

loosen the lock nut and spin the nut away as far as possible ... turn the adjuster to make it shorter ... this will put slack in the cable ... at the carb pull the cable housing up out of the tube and the cable should pass through the slot ... you can then remove the barrel end from the carb

when replacing the cables follow your Factory Service Manual to get the correct adjustment so everything works as it should ...

And...get yourself a service manual someday, if you plan to keep wrench'n on the bike. Great reference to have for all rider/owners.

A basic mechanics pick set is really helpful for jobs like this and you can pick them up for under $10.
