Default starter problem

have 2007 883- replaced starter with OEM unit. All went well- exact fit no problems but now -I get the click of death on overnight start up-but next attempt kicks right over- replaced ALL relays and fuses also click rarely occurs after warm up.

Is it like a “KERCHUNK” sound? How do the connections to the battery look? I used to get that when one of the battery cables was bad

the sound is a 'click' rapid and clear. like gears don't mesh. All my power connections are tight-the installation went OEM-once the starter gear meshes the bike turns over fine- mostly when cold -sometimes when hot, replaced ALL fuses and relays

How old is the battery? Just went through that with my Wife's 04 1200 Custom. 1 year old AGM battery from Bulbs Plus, took it in for a load test. FAILED. Got a new free battery and problem is gone.

Have your volt/ohm/DC meter on your charger.connections to your battery. If it falls below 9.6, it is a battery problem. It takes good voltage and amps to pull in starter. Sounds like it is not going in far enough to even start starter.

It sounds like a poor battery connection. I believe that what's happening when you get the click is that current is trying to flow through a poor connection. The connection heats up and becomes cleaner/better so the next time you try to start, it works properly.

Cleaning both ends of both battery cables and the places they attach to as well as the large cable that attaches to the starter should fix it.
