Bad stator killed the voltage regulator and the first battery.
even with a bad regulator, a new battery should still start the bike. My understanding is the regulator regulates the voltage from the stator to the battery.
Did you charge the "NEW" battery or get it off the shelf and install it?
And if the VR is trying to deliver 14 volts for too long that it's not getting from the stator it cooks itself.

I get the regulator is possibly cooked. Im trying to figure out why the bike wont start for now. That was off the shelf. Its sitting on the charger now. This is the 4th battery Ive had this issue with, and theyre from two different shops. The odds of having 4 bad batteries in a row is unreal. Off the shelf the voltage reading was 13.89Vac.
Did you really check the cables? This is what I found under the insulation, the ground is notorious for being broken under the insulation at the motor.
Only thing I can think of is something in the stator/clutch area is binding up, if you take the side cover off and loosen the primary adjuster all the way can you rock the clutch/ring gear back and forth?

checked and cleaned was he first thing i did before pulling off the cover and checking the internals.

it all moves. I pulled the cover off last night before posting again. The battery doesnt seem to have the power to turn the motor over. The starter gear doesnt always engage, but once its lined up, it wont have enough power to turn the motor. Twice the starter gear has gotten stuck, but with a little help it slides back in (it sounds a little rough). Nothing is binding up until I try to start the bike. Ive taken a cheater bar and socket and have cranked the motor by hand, bike in neutral, everything moves. My old man thinks its a battery issue, but 4 bad batteries doesnt sound right to me. I charged battery 4 over night, sitting at 13.05Vac, gonna give it a shot, but I have no expectations.
