1156 to 1157 conversion with module for 1157 bulbs to run correctly?
So I found some turn signals off Ciro3D I want to to my 17 Sportster Custom. Front turn signals will work fine with the halo they have along with turn signal part of it. However, rear is 1156 and I was going to change the plug to 1157, but I still need to find a module that'll let it run correctly. I can rewire it all of course but I'd rather not have to splice and cut the wiring. I have the understanding that the HD module won't work other than with 1156 single filament bulbs. Am I wrong? Is there a module out there that'll let me run the lights correctly? I've called around and it seems every company says no their module won't work.
For reference these are the rear lights I want to add: https://ciro3d.com/collections/turn-signals/products/fang-rear-signal-light-inserts-in-chrome-or-black
The turn signals on your Custom are turn only. Other Sportster models, like the Iron and 48 have the turns as a run/brake/turn function as they do not have a separate brake light like on your Custom. The Ciro lights in your link is actually made for these bikes.
I take it you like that halo feature, if so, you'll need to wire the turns so they are a run/brake/turn along with the 1157 plug. Custom Dynamics has an 1156 rear turns with a halo feature that already has separate wires to tap into the "run and brake" circuit wires in your tail light here. They also have connectors so you don't need to splice if you like that.

Yes, I like the Halo feautre and was going to add them to the front and wanted the rears to match. I wanted it to be pretty much factory or as close to it as possible and work as if I threw them on one of those bikes. Would it be possible to get the relay or module for a 48 and throw it on mine?
I don't think there is a module. It's all wired into a harness for the rear light assembly. But I'm sure someone can confirm.
EDIT: One thing you'll need to be aware of is you have a CAN Bus system, so it might depend on additional resistance in the wiring when you splice-n-dice.
I just checked the wiring last night. I do have the wires running to the indicators but the indicators only have 2 so the other wires aren't being used. So I should be able to just get the other indicators and re wire the connector and plug and play. I'm going to try this and I'll report back.
The Custom had a change of middle lamp though to LED. The wiring diagram I am looking at shows the possibility with that setup the indicators have 3 wires running to them.
You're correct Andy. The 2011+ Customs changed to an LED tail lamp and the turns remain non-LED. If the turns had a run feature, then I believe there are 3 wires to them instead of 2.
